Class of 2024 Highlights
Vanderbilt University Chancellor's scholars
CHS IB seniors Brandon Buchalter and Maariya Sheikh have both been selected as Chancellor's Scholars at Vanderbilt University! Fewer than one percent of applicants to Vanderbilt were chosen for this prestigious honor, and Brandon and Maariya were singled out by the admissions committee for their outstanding leadership, strength of character, academic achievement, and deep-seated commitment to diversity and social justice. Chancellor's Scholars receive full tuition to Vanderbilt, plus a one-time summer stipend for an immersive experience following their sophomore or junior year. Congratulations to these two exceptional students!
Elon University Scholarship
Congratulations to CHS IB Class of 2024 graduate Blair Berenson, who has been named the winner of Elon University’s Kenan Honors Program Scholarship. This award, worth almost $50,000 per year, is given to just one student in the entire first-year class of Elon’s Honors Program. In addition to the scholarship money, Blair will receive a $4,000 grant to fund a global study experience of his choice.
National Merit Scholarship finalists
CHS IB seniors Zara Khan, Maariya Sheikh, and Sophia Higgins have advanced to the next round of the National Merit Scholarship Program competition and have been officially named as Finalists! All three students are now eligible for National Merit Scholarship Awards, which will be announced later this spring. Congratulations to these impressive scholars!

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SEMIFINALISTS
Sophia Higgins, Tyler Chang, Zara Khan, and Maariya Sheikh
These students now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for a prestigious National Merit Scholarship. Over 1.3 million students in the United States entered this competition by taking the PSAT last fall, but fewer than one percent of those students make it to this stage.
IB seniors Mara Antunez, Kennedy Young, and Angelica Martinez will be moving on to the next stage of the prestigious QuestBridge Scholars program and could be selected to receive a full-ride scholarship at one of their chosen universities.
Mia Mitchell, Anam Jaw, and Elina Natu were selected as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program!
These students were awarded this honor for their high scores on the PSAT, and while they do not continue on in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they may qualify for scholarships offered by the NMSC's sponsors.
Athletics
Congratulations to CHS IB's Sydney Nettles for signing with Rutgers and being named the Cobb County School District's Athlete of the Week! Sydney was recognized for her outstanding achievement in track and field, but she has also been a vital part of the CHS softball and fencing teams over the last four years. We are very lucky to have this scholar-athlete as part of the Spartan family!
