how to apply - detailed instructions

Once the application system opens on October 1st, students will complete and submit their online application for the CHS IB magnet program. All instructions are listed in the portal. Students will need to have a valid email address that is checked frequently because all instructions and communications will be done via email. Remember that applicants will submit names and email addresses for the four teacher recommendations, and students should check to be sure they enter that information correctly so the teachers receive the request from the application system. Teachers will receive the notice about recommendations once the student submits the application, and they will have have a later deadline to submit their references.

Cobb County School District students (those currently attending a CCSD middle school) will have their middle school grades and test scores loaded automatically into the application system. There should be no need for you to submit this information unless you spent 7th grade in a different district or school.

If you spent 7th grade in a different district or school OR you are spending 8th grade in a different district or school, please follow the directions for submitting transcripts from private/home school students. Private/home school students are able to complete the online application as well. In addition to the application, these students will need to submit an official academic transcript from 7th and 8th grade that includes all grades and standardized test scores. This information should be obtained by the student/parents and submitted to CHS IB c/o Ms. Wood in early January so that we have all the information to make informed admissions decisions in February. If you are applying to more than one magnet program, you only need to send ONE copy of the transcript to one program – we can all see the same data so there is no need to duplicate it for multiple programs.

In addition to sending the transcript, ALL students (CCSD as well as private/home school/out of district) will also take an admissions exam. CCSD students will take the PSAT at school. Other students, see Special Note for Private School/Home School Applicants above.

All applications must be submitted by the end of the day (11:59 PM) on December 2, 2024; anything entered into the portal after 11:59 PM on December 2nd cannot be accepted. Please be sure to click the SUBMIT button on the last page to be sure your information is entered completely. Email Lisha Wood, or call CHS IB at 678-842-6850 x 071 if you have any questions or problems with the application.
